Bio
Bob Cooley is a photographer and creative director whose career spans four decades across photojournalism, editorial, documentary, and commercial photography.
Raised in southwestern Michigan, Cooley began working as a photojournalist in the late 1980s.
Beginning with local and regional newspapers, his editorial work soon appeared in national publications including LIFE Magazine, The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, The Economist, and The Washington Post.
In the 1990s, Cooley's work expanded from daily news coverage to documentary projects, editorial assignments, and commercial photography. During this period he co-founded eyekon Studios, where he was among the early photographers adopting digital imaging while continuing to work in traditional photographic practice. His commercial work included assignments for Herman Miller, Haworth, Simon & Schuster, and Pella Windows.
Cooley was a regular contributor and contractor to the Associated Press for nearly a decade. His photographs have appeared in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States and internationally, and his work is held in the collection of the International Center of Photography (ICP).
He has also mentored emerging photographers throughout his career, teaching the craft and practical skills of photography that give them more control over how they shape their own photographic expression. He has advised corporate clients, production companies, and emerging technology ventures on photography, imaging, and creative direction.
He continues to produce documentary, narrative, commercial, and personal work while working selectively with private clients.
